This figure is a surveyor and he stands at the traffic circle (roundabout) at the start of the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek. He is pointing towards Alaska.
The visitor centre is in the old railway station and it also houses a little wildlife museum..
The first display is owls and this is ducks. Note the pale blue beaks of the pair of scaups (ducks) at the bottom right.

Grain elevators are everywhere on the prairie. This one is now an art gallery.
This is the real Mile 0. It is actually one block west of where the main road now runs.
They told us that the railway line is no longer in use but three engines came by with three wagons - bit of overkill, I thought.
Back in Edmonton we had a problem with an engine management warning light coming on. They cleared it there and advised us it was caused by lean mixture in bank 2. It happened again after another 500 miles and the engine was sounding a bit rough.

So we decided discretion was the better part of valour and went to the Ford dealer.

They put the computer on it and found the same code plus some engine misfires. They pulled a plug and decided it didn't look good (they've done 110000 miles). They also changed the fuel filter (they weren't happy with that either). But it now runs much smoother and we're told we should get better mileage. I hope so - it was not cheap!
Just as well we had planned a rest day. We are actually currently a day ahead of schedule but I think we may move on in the morning. We are now at the start of the Alaska Highway.
