It seems as though we have been driving all month but we have only done 1800 miles. That is because most of he travelling has been on smaller roads as we headed round the Gaspe peninsula in Quebec. The maps of the Atlantic Provinces are quite small scale, it is all much larger than you expect. If Quebec was a country it would be the 19th largest in the World,
The weather has been good with only a few days of rain. The forecast for August is that it will be very hot all over Canada. The first part of the month we will remain in Nova Scotia before heading back into the USA and down the Maine coast. We had planned to go up into Newfoundland but that is not going to happen now. It is a six hour crossing from here to Port Aux Basques from whence it is 600 miles to St Johns, the capital. Apparently there is nothing in Port aux Basques and the nearest car hire is three hours away. The other ferry takes 14 hours to Argentia three times a week and you are still 150 miles from St Johns and no car hire. It is very expensive to get the RV across. The only practical way of going for a short time is to fly from Halifax. Ah well, maybe one day. |
