We camped at Chula Vista, 12 miles south of San Diego, for
10 days. This was a good, if expensive site. At 30ft long, by European
standards our RV (in the middle) is large, but with the units on either side you can see we
are really quite small. Next door's tow-behind car is almost as big as we are!
| Besides the RV
park, the site owns this boat marina with a wide variety of berths for boats of
different sizes. |
The RV park is only yards from the beach from where you can
look north to San Diego with the Coronado bridge in the foreground.
| There is good
public transport by tram, bus and trolley. Our 'local' tram line runs from
San Diego down to Tijuana in Mexico by means of
the San Diego Tramway. Trams run every 15 minutes all day and an all-day ticket
is $5. We used it to travel to San Diego, although not to Balboa Park. |
Another form of transport to San Diego which we didn't try - the Amtrak 'Surfliner' service up to Los Angeles. Some trains
are run with
modern commuter style trains. This stock seemed a little more eclectic. I
wondered if it was still in service.
| Another shot of the
Coronado bridge in the late afternoon from the mainland, showing the curves
and the height. |
And another late afternoon shot of the warships in the naval base from
the train as we returned to Chula Vista.
| We had many sunsets
to admire. The sun goes down so fast and darkness falls within minutes. You
can get series of photos only minutes apart and they look very different.
